I’ve always believed that cake has a magical way of making people feel special. Whether it’s a generous wedge of sponge shared over a cuppa or a decadent brownie to lift a low moment – cake is comfort, joy, and celebration all rolled into one. That simple idea is where The Cake Tasting Club was born.
The Spark Behind the Idea
At the time, life was busy, like it is for most of us. I was juggling being a mum, baking as a hobby, and dreaming of doing something that truly brought people joy. The idea came like a whisper at first: What if I could send cake in the post? Not just any cake – handmade, small-batch, full-of-love kind of cake.
The first box I ever sent was to a friend who lived far away. I wanted her to know I was thinking of her, even though I couldn’t be there in person. I carefully packaged up a few of my favourite bakes and posted them off, half excited, half worried they’d arrive as crumbs.
She called me the moment it arrived, delighted. “This is the best post I’ve ever had,” she said. And just like that, something clicked.
From Hobby to Club
From that one box, things began to grow. Slowly at first – friends, family, word of mouth. I started getting requests:
"Could I send one to my mum?"
"Do you do birthdays?"
"Can I just subscribe and get cake every month?"
The answer quickly became “yes” – and The Cake Tasting Club was born.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing, of course. I had to figure out how to keep the cakes fresh, how to package them beautifully (and securely!), and how to build something from scratch while still being mum, wife, friend, human. But every message, every photo of someone enjoying their box, every “Oh my gosh this is amazing” email made it worth it.
Why Cake by Post Matters
Cake by post might seem like a novelty – but it’s so much more. It’s a way to show up for someone you care about, even when you can’t be there in person. It’s a moment of comfort for someone having a tough week. It’s a joyful surprise on a random Tuesday.
It’s also easy. You don’t have to go to the shops, bake it yourself, or worry about wrapping. We do all that for you – with love and care in every bite.
And when life feels a little overwhelming or disconnected, that box of cake can be a reminder: you’re thought of, you’re loved, and there’s still sweetness to be found.
What Drives Us Today
The Cake Tasting Club has grown, but the heart of it hasn’t changed. We still bake everything fresh, in small batches, using real ingredients and a big dose of creativity. We still jump for joy when we read your reviews. And we still believe that cake is one of life’s simplest, most powerful pleasures.
